In response to Tolkien’s dissatisfaction with the 1965 Ballantine Edition cover illustration, minor changes were made with the publication of this Revised Edition. Notably, the image of the lion was removed.
An SBN code (34501532) was added to the copyright page with the 26th Printing but not seen again until the 37th Printing (then 345015320). This was changed to 34521532X for the 41st Printing.

*With the 23rd Printing (or possibly the 21st/22nd which have not been seen) the 20th Printing date was changed to June, 1969.
With the 30th Printing (or possibly the 27th-29th which have not been seen) the 20th Printing date was changed back to September, 1969, the 21st Printing was changed to September, 1969 and the 23rd Printing was changed to December, 1969.
