Copies of each printing were issued in this slipcase up to (and including) the 14th, 13th, 13th printings respectively.
A nearly identical slipcase was used for the Book-of-the-Month Club copies (beginning December, 1969) and can be identified by the number ‘0456’ printed near the bottom of the label.
The runes bordering the central panel of the slipcase read (repeating): ‘THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRANSLATED FROM THE RED BOOK’.
